      <title>Mount Pleasant Lights On</title>
      <description>&lt;p&gt;&lt;img src="http://asset3.pnn.com/graphics/show/8208/360/image.jpg" /&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Mount Pleasant High School was among more than 7,500 communities and 1 million Americans that celebrated Lights On Afterschool on October 18.&amp;nbsp; This nationwide event, organized by the Afterschool Alliance, was a rally to support our after school programs.&amp;nbsp; After school programs keep kids safe, help working families, and inspire learning.&amp;nbsp; According to &lt;a href="http://www.afterschoolalliance.org/"&gt;www.afterschoolalliance.org&lt;/a&gt;, 14.3 million children in the United States go home alone after school.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The teachers at Mount Pleasant High School participated in several ways.&amp;nbsp; Many of the teachers dressed in the garb of their favorite activity including customized T-shirts, uniforms, and even creative costumes.&amp;nbsp; The advisor for the Environmental Club creatively wore attire consisting of autumn leaves.&amp;nbsp; The school featured a bulletin board in the main hallway promoting all of the clubs, organizations, and activities in the company of the 2007 Afterschool Alliance poster.&amp;nbsp; &lt;a href="http://www.mphsknights.com/"&gt;MPHSKnights.com&lt;/a&gt;, the school web site, also highlighted the importance of the campaign.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The Broadcast Learning Center of the Brandywine School District provided the media support to generate awareness for the many student opportunities after school.&amp;nbsp; The school radio station, &lt;a href="http://www.wmph.org/"&gt;WMPH&lt;/a&gt; 91.7 FM, aired announcements prior to the event recorded by the undergraduate disc jockeys to promote Lights On Afterschool.&amp;nbsp; The school closed-circuit television station aired a puppet skit to the entire student body on the day of the event.&amp;nbsp; The entertaining recruitment sketch encouraged all students to join an after school activity.&amp;nbsp; Many students of Mount Pleasant High School were inspired, and at the end of the school day on Thursday, a number of young people inquired to find out more about the after school resources offered to them.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;</description>
